Hi, everyone! Hope you all had a great day yesterday celebrating with the dads in your life :).
My father’s day started with a quick workout (week at a glance coming tomorrow) before heading down to see my parents. Once arriving, we had a mini photo shoot with dad in the back yard.
Soon after, we headed out for delicious food and delightful company at a restaurant called Angelina’s Italian Bistro in Freehold, New Jersey.
This place was discovered by happenstance…in the same location was an amazing restaurant called Trattoria Fraro where we had my bridal shower and our rehearsal dinner. Months later, wanting to return for the great food and atmosphere, we discovered they had closed down! Angelina’s has since opened in it’s place and we figured we’d give it a shot- glad we did, some of the best food I’ve had in a long time!
While deciding what to order, our waitress brought out pizza bread and fried zucchini. The fried zucchini slices were outstanding- we were all slowly eating them trying to decipher the ingredients, they were that good. Tasted like olive oil, red pepper flakes, cheese, and garlic. This is definitely going to be a must-try-to-recreate!
My dad, who can make friends with a telephone pole, got to talking with the owners and discovered that him and the chef are from the same region of Italy called Puglia. The chef came out and talked with us a bit- really nice guy. He made my dad a special appetizer that wasn’t on their menu…
…we were all drooling over it! I don’t recall the name, but it was essentially fresh mozzarella with ricotta inside of it. Yum!
As an appetizer, Pete and I shared the Bonconcinni Speck. I kid you not, a few groans escaped my lips while eating this. The proscuitto was so thin and crispy, just how I like it. Wrapped around fresh mozzarella alongside cherry tomatoes, roasted garlic, and breadcrumbs…omg!
My entree was just as fabulous…I went with the Crispy Siciliana, which was penne with plum tomatoes, fresh ricotta, and mozzarella baked so the cheese was melty and crisp.
The food was enjoyed by all and this restaurant will definitely be a repeat for us.
