Being part of a CSA is something Pete and I have talked about for a while. We’ve come across a few options, but they were either too expensive or had inconvenient pickup locations. Then, a couple of weeks ago, my cousin posted about Door to Door Organics, a delivery service that brings organic produce right to your doorstep.
Upon initial research, I noticed that Door to Door organics had items like mangoes and bananas. This bothered me at first because I was hoping to find a CSA that would support local farms. However, I noticed they have an option called the “Local Farm Box” which does supply from farmers in your area. That’s when we decided to try it.
After signing up, you can select which produce you prefer and which you do not. We made our selections to better personalize our box. You can also choose what size box you want depending on your family size. We went with the “Little Local Farm Box.” You can choose to have all fruit, all veggies, or a mix and schedule your delivery for weekly or biweekly.
My favorite part of the service is that a few days before, they email you with what will be in your box. Then, you can make up to five substitutions. We decided to get a mix of local farm items and other organic items simply because we wanted to try out the different produce.
On our scheduled delivery day, our box was literally brought to our front door by a woman who works for Door to Door Organics. Can’t get more personal than that!
I was so excited to dig into our goodies! Everything was packed with an icepack to keep nice and cool in case you aren’t home when the delivery arrives.
Our bounty included:
5 bananas, 1 green pepper, 1 cucumber, 2 tomatoes, 1 red leaf lettuce, 1 onion, 1 avocado, and 2 pears. All organic!
One additional pro of Door to Door Organics is that you pay by the box and can cancel your subscription at any time with no penalties. There are also online coupon codes, so be sure to research some before ordering your first box.
We were very happy with the quality, delivery, and overall convenience of Door to Door Organics. However, we are unsure how long we will keep the service going simply because of price. The “Little Local Farm Box” is $27. We got the first box for $17 because we had a $10 off coupon. However, we would not typically spend $27 on produce. You are definitely paying for the convenience and for the produce being organic. Besides this though we have all wonderful things to say about this company!
